Telecommunications network design optimization

Economically optimizing the location and provisioning of expensive telecommunications equipment in complex networks such as statewide SONET networks until recently required using either extremely expensive and complex software developed for the Bell companies by Telcordia Technologies (formerly Bellcore) or internally developed operations research models developed by Ph.Ds using tools such as XPRESS-MP or CPlex.

RSoft Design Group has recently introduced user-friendly, less expensive (<$100,000) packages to do the same thing; we can work with RSoft and utilities that don't have this software to determine their least-cost network design.
