Industry standards development

Fiber Planners' senior staff are very active in standards development for fiber optic cable systems in the power utility environment. These specialized standards are developed by committees within IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers). In particular, the Fiber Optic Standards Joint Working Group writes the standards for ADSS, OPGW, wrap cable and fiber optic attachment hardware. Although this work is unpaid, we believe it's critical, especially since we are among the few voices for end-users in a group comprised mostly of vendors.

Fiber Planners staff also drafted the ADSS installation section for upcoming version of IEEE Standard 524, the standard for overhead power line construction methods.
